Dad Shot While Trying to Protect Daughter: This Week's Police Blotter

Man expected to pull through after getting shot once in the abdomen on May 10 in Cuyler Gore Park.

Robberies

  • While walking through Cuyler Gore Park after shopping at Atlantic Terminal Mall on May 10 at 9:50 p.m., a 28-year-old woman and her father were approached from behind by a man identified by police as Tyron Lovick, 36. When Lovick tried to grab the woman's necklace, the father attempted to intervene—after which Lovick shot him once in the abdomen. A member of the 88th Precinct detective squad arrested Lovick the next day. According to police, the man is expected to recover.
  • On May 4 at 5 p.m. at N. Portland and Myrtle avenues near Whitman Houses, two teenage females kicked, punched and stole a pair of headphones from a 12-year-old boy.
  • Also at Whitman Houses on May 10 at around 3 p.m., a perp approached a 17-year-old male and asked him, "What do you have in your backpack?" The perp and an accomplice then took the bag by force, punched the victim in the face and stole a phone from his pants pocket.
  • A man became irate with another man and began punching him during an argument at Auburn Homeless Shelter in Fort Greene on May 10 at around 6 p.m. At some point during the incident, the perp stole a phone that fell out of the victim's pocket.
  • Police arrested a 37-year-old man and charged him with stealing a pair of women's sunglasses in the vicinity of 660 Fulton St. on May 12 at around 4 a.m.

  • On May 7 at 10:10 p.m. near the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Washington Park, a woman slashed a mother's right hand with a razor after she attempted to take the other woman's son out of his stroller. Police arrested the woman, Sharon McKoy, 52, two days later.
  • At a residence at Whitman Houses on May 9, a woman punched her ex-boyfriend's current girlfriend in the stomach, saying, "I'm gonna kick that baby out of you." The girlfriend was five months pregnant at the time of the incident. The victim told police that she would go to a doctor to make sure her unborn baby wasn't injured.
