Cops: Mom Arrives at Daughter's Arrest, Is Arrested Herself

Southampton Village police said mother drove with a suspended license to scene of teen's arrest.

When a Southampton teenager was pulled over Monday and found to be driving with a suspended registration and in possession of marijuana, her mother made the mistake of driving to the scene in a vehicle that also had a suspended registration, according to police.

Southampton Village police said that a 19-year-old woman was being arrested at 11:46 a.m. Monday when her 49-year-old mother showed up. Not only did the mother's car have a suspended registration, the mother had a suspended license, police said.

Both women were charged with driving with a suspended registration, a misdemeanor. The daughter was additionally charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and the mother was additionally charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, a misdemeanor.

They were released to appear in court on a later date, police said.

The women's identities are being withheld because Southampton Patch does not publish the names of defendants when the top charge is a misdemeanor suspension.

I retracted my comment about the names - understanding it was not a DWI charge regarding the daughter, only possession (still bad for a 19 year old). Thanks Brendan. I agree with Amy that it is rare when names ARE withheld. I have seen Riverhead Online publish the names of minors (terrible and unethical). To understand Christian, however - are you saying that they do not have $ to pay their registrations, and they get a pass?? If so that is ridiculous. What would then prevent them from NOT paying their car insurance too ?? Is that their next bill not to be paid. If so, don't drive.

You ever hear the saying "You don't know what you don't know"? Well, you don't know what you don't know. It is the job of the person who doesn't want any attention or judgement to stay out of trouble you big dummy. Signed, someone who has had to learn that lesson the hard way.

No names makes it benign compared to another pub that reported names.
