Cop Vs. Frying Pan: This Week's Police Blotter

A roundup of reported incidents in the 88th Precinct this past week.

The following arrest information was supplied by the New York Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Stabbing Ends With Assault Of Police Officer With Frying Pan

Shortly after a 22-year-old woman attempted to break up a fight between her sister and a 36-year-old man's girlfriend, the man approached the woman, stabbing her twice with a kitchen knife on the 400 block of Carlton Avenue on June 29. Police later caught up with the suspect at a fast food restaurant on 848 Fulton St. later that day, but not before the man hit an officer with a frying pan while resisting arrest. The officer suffered bruises and cuts to his left arm.

One Reported Assault, Two Arrests

At 117 N. Oxford Walk, two women got into an argument in the early morning hours of June 28—with two competing version of events. The first woman, 32, states that the other hit her on the left side of the head and right arm with a wrench. The second woman, 24, claimed she was the victim of harassment by the first woman that ended with an injury to her left arm, also caused by a wrench. The weapon was not recovered. Both women were arrested and charged with assault.

Chase Bank Hold-up

At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Friday, a man passed a note to a bank teller at the Chase Bank on Flushing Avenue that read, "Give me all $100 and $50 bills or else everyone dies!!!" The teller gave the man $6,600 in cash, after which the man fled in a white vehicle. The New York Police Department's Major Case Squad and 88th Precinct detectives are investigating. 

Church Break-in

An unknown person broke into St. Luke's Lutheran Church on Washington Avenue in the early morning hours of June 29. The intruder entered by breaking the back door and office window. No items were removed from the church. 

Couple's Fight Turns Ugly

An argument on Myrtle Avenue between a teenage girl and her boyfriend on June 28 ended with him smashing her cellphone and tearing up $50 in cash. No injuries were reported. The boyfriend, 17, was charged with grand larceny. 

Money Stolen At Chinese Take-out

While a 38-year old man attempted to pay the cashier for his food at a Chinese take-out restaurant at 344 Classon Ave. late Thursday night, four teens surrounded him and prevented him from leaving. One of the teens then snatched a $20 bill from the man. Police later apprehended the teens, who ranged in age from 15 to 19. 

Verbal Disagreement Ends With Bricks Thrown

On June 28, a 39-year-old employee of the 39 Auburn Place Shelter had a verbal disagreement near the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and N. Portland Street with an unknown person who took a swing at him but missed. With the man fled the store, the unknown person began to throw bricks and rocks at him. The man was unharmed. 

iPhone Grab On Vanderbilt

On June 28, an unknown person approached a 26-year-old woman from behind and snatched her iPhone as she walked northbound on Vanderbilt Avenue near Gates Avenue. The assailant then punched the woman in the face and fled on foot. Police did not locate the suspect. 

Robbery From Parked Car

A driver of a delivery truck double parked in front of 195 Dekalb Ave. caught an unknown person exiting the cab with $7,349 in cash and checks last Thursday afternoon. The thief then got into a white Nissan Altima with New York plate No. EUJ3511 and fled the scene. A witness confirmed the delivery driver’s account. Detectives from the 88th Precinct are investigating. 

Two Laptops Stolen

On Saturday, a man and his girlfriend were robbed of two Apple MacBook Pros and $33 in cash while they slept in their apartment on Adelphi Street. The man believes he left the door unlocked. 

Wallet Snatch At Target

A woman shopping in the swimsuit section of the Target on Atlantic Avenue on June 29 noticed her bag open and her wallet missing. Target security told the woman they had footage of the theft from the store's security cameras. 

Car Stolen On Willoughby

A man said he discovered his 2003 Chevy Impala stolen after leaving it parked on Willoughby Street on Saturday. Police found broken glass at the location. A canvass by police did not turn up the vehicle.
