Father Arrested For Beating 11-Year-Old Son With Belt: This Week's Police Blotter

Alleged assault occurred Jan. 14 at Whitman Houses.

Eleven-year-old Beaten With Belt; Father Arrested

The Special Victims Unit of the New York Police Department tipped off 88th Precinct detectives regarding a suspected beating of an 11-year-old boy by his father at in the early morning hours of Jan. 14. Police arrested Denorval Parks, 39, at his residence on Jan. 17. According to police, Parks struck his son several times, causing marks to the child's back.

The General Greene Robbed of Coffee-Making Equipment

Unknown suspect(s) stole a $6,800 espresso machine from a shed attached to on Dekalb Avenue sometime during the early morning hours of Jan. 19. The lock to the shed was broken and the machine, along with a coffee grinder, refrigerator and coffee brewer, was removed. (Update, 7:53 p.m., Brooklyn Paper has the scoop on the recovery of The General Greene's espresso machine).

Teacher's Wallet Disappears From Desk at P.S. 11

Leaving her wallet to pick up students from lunch, a teacher at P.S. 11 on Waverly Avenue returned to her classroom on Jan. 18 around noon to find her wallet, placed in a desk drawer, missing. The woman reported the incident to police at the 88th Precinct stationhouse later that day. A search of the school for the wallet was not conducted, according to police.

Man Arrested in B&H Refund Switcheroo

Police nabbed a 19-year-old male on Jan. 18, accusing him of refunding a Sony HD camcorder at B&H's facility on Flushing Avenue in November without actually turning over the camera. The alleged fraud cost B&H $6,868.99.

Man Stabbed By Boyfriend

At a residence on Cumberland Street, an ambulance transported a man to Brooklyn Hospital after his boyfriend stabbed him with a knife after an argument on Jan. 20 at 12:25 p.m.

Purse Swiped at Atlantic Terminal

While at a store at Atlantic Terminal Mall on Jan. 15 at 4 p.m., a woman left her purse in a shopping cart only to return minutes later to find her purse missing, with a debit card, identification and an unknown amount of cash inside. Review of security footage at the store did not provide any leads.

Phone Snatch on Vanderbilt

On Jan. 16 7:30 p.m., a man snatched a woman's iPhone along Vanderbilt Avenue in Clinton Hill. The man fled in an unknown direction. No injuries to the victim were reported.

Rims, Wheels Stolen From Escalade

The owner of a 2011 Cadillac Escalade returned to a Downing Street parking space on Jan. 17 at 5 a.m., discovering all four tires and matching chrome aluminum rims—worth $6,000 altogether —missing. During the theft, the car's driver's side front and rear passenger doors were scratched.

Pratt Student's Bag Stolen

On the Brooklyn campus of Pratt Institute on Jan. 17 at 2:30 p.m., a 22-year-old student left her bag inside a classroom. When she returned, she found the bag missing, with her wallet and iPod inside. A classmate saw an unknown person enter the classroom, leaving in a hurry. A check of the school's security cameras did not turn up any suspects.

Pocketbook Possibly Snatched on Train

An employee of an office at 570 Fulton St. reported her pocketbook stolen Jan. 18 at 11 a.m. after riding on the train to work. The victim, a 56-year-old woman, said her pocketbook was strapped across her shoulder while on the train. She said she was not bumped or jostled. Unauthorized charges on the woman's debit card were later reported.

Bicyclist Stop Turns Up Robbery Suspect

A police officer observing a male riding on a bicycle on a public sideway near 300 Dekalb Ave. on the evening of Jan. 19 discovered items stolen from a car after stopping the man to ask for identification. Among the items retrieved were debit cards, a pair of sunglasses, photos and broken pieces of glass. The officer discovered gloves and a cellphone belonging to the perp, identified by police as Jerry Brown, 54, in the victim's car where the items were stolen.

Woman Assaulted at Ingersoll Houses

A 24-year-old woman told police that a relative pushed their way into her apartment at Ingersoll Houses on Jan. 18 at around 5:30 p.m., punched her with a closed fist on the back of her head and then started choking her, causing her to back out. The victim regained consciousness as police started knocking on her door.

Bottle Attack in Fort Greene Park

Unknown perps hit a 21-year-old man in the head with a bottle at a playground located near Washington Park and Dekalb Avenue on Jan. 18 at 7:45 p.m. The victim told police the perps started pulling and pushing him, after which he pulled away and ran home.

Frozen Projectile Hits Woman

Police charged a 45-year-old man with throwing a frozen water bottle at a woman at Ingersoll Houses in the early morning hours of Jan. 20. The woman sustained injuries to the right side of the head.

iPhone Snatched on Lafayette Ave.

While looking for directions, a woman had her iPhone stolen by a teen on Lafayette Avenue at Clinton Avenue on Jan. 18 around 9 a.m. The 15-year-old male then knocked the woman to the ground and then fled westbound on Lafayette Avenue and then southbound on Adelphi Street. Police arrested the suspect about an hour later.

Over $1,300 In Cash Stolen From Car

A 25-year-old man reported $1,375 in cash, an iPad, cellphone and Timbukt2 bag stolen from his car parked near the intersection of Dekalb Avenue and Washington Park on Jan. 17 at 2:30 p.m. There was no evidence of forced entry to the vehicle.

DHS Employee Victim of Car Theft

An employee of the city Department of Health had $5,250 worth of lighting equipment and electronics stolen from a car parked near 45 Waverly Ave. on Jan. 20 3 p.m. The worker found the front passenger side window broken and property removed.

Audi Q5 Stolen

The owner of a 2011 Audi Q5 with New York plates returned to a spot at S. Oxford Street and Dekalb Avenue to find the vehicle missing on Jan. 16 at 4 p.m.
