A Terrifying Home Invasion in This Week's Crime Blotter

A woman awakes to find that she is being strangled in our regular roundup of crime in the 88th Precinct.

Home Invasion

A brutal burglar broke into a woman’s home and pounced on her while she slept on Jan. 24.

The 21-year-old victim told cops she was sleeping in her residence on Auburn Place between Park and Myrtle avenues at around 4:30 a.m. when she awoke to find that the man was choking her and threatening to stab her if she screamed. The woman managed to fight him off, and he fled. Cops soon arrested a 29-year-old suspect for burglary.

Access Denied

A thug bashed a man in the face with a shovel after he was refused entry to the lobby of a S. Elliot Place building on Jan. 30.

The victim told cops he was in the lobby of the building between Hanson Place and Atlantic Avenue at around 1:30 a.m. when the irate shovel man asked to be let in, leading to the assault.

Troubled teen

A teenager beat up a 12-year-old and stole $6 from him on Jan. 24.

The young victim told cops he was on Washington Avenue between Lafayette and Greene avenues at around 3:45 p.m. when the teen grabbed him from behind. The attacker then told the kid to cough up some cash or he was going to get beaten up. The perp then went ahead and punched the kid in the stomach and took his paltry sum of cash.

Carjacked

Two thieves in ski masks jumped into a woman’s 1999 Saab and stole it on Jan. 24.

 The victim told cops that she had just gotten into her car at Atlantic and S. Portland avenues at around 3:45 p.m. when the two masked men sat down in her auto. They instructed her to “stay, stay.” The victim then asked, “Is everything O.K.?” But she apparently decided everything wasn’t, and made a run for it. The thieves also escaped with her cellphone, a debit card, cash, and an assortment of IDs.

Cell Snatch

A band of seven troublemakers forced a man into handing over his cellphone on Jan. 25 in Fort Greene Park, but one of them ended up in handcuffs for the robbery.

The 30-year-old victim told cops he was near Myrtle Avenue and Washington Park inside the park at around 5:10 p.m. when the septet approached and demanded his cellphone and everything else he had. One of the men then grabbed for the cellphone, but the victim resisted, resulting in a blow to his shoulder. The thug then pushed the victim down a hill and punched and kicked him, leaving him with a laceration to the eye. Cops later arrested a 23-year-old for the robbery.

Misled Youths

Eight to 10 youngsters beat up a 25-year-old and stole his stuff on Jan. 27.

The victim told cops he was at S. Elliot Place and DeKalb Avenue at around 8:10 p.m. when the group pushed him to the ground and punched him in the face. Cops did not disclose what items were stolen. Two youngsters were arrested for the robbery.

Payback

A brutal boss and two others beat down and robbed an employee at the on Jan. 28 who they apparently suspected of robbing the restaurant.

The 23-year-old victim told cops he was working at the eatery on Fulton Street between Vanderbilt and Clinton avenues at around 9 p.m. when his boss said, “Don’t steal from us! Give us your sh—!” Then the trio punched and kicked the victim and stole his stuff. Cops did not disclose what items were stolen, but two arrests were made.

Tool Time

A thief stole over $1,000 in tools from a housing development on Carlton Avenue on Jan. 22.

A worker at the site told cops that he had last been at the site between Flushing and Park avenues at around 7:30 p.m. When he returned two days later the equipment was missing from a storage room.

Cell swipes

  • A quick-handed thief snatched a phone right out of a woman’s hand on Jan. 24. The 13-year-old victim told cops she was at Vanderbilt and DeKalb avenues at around noon when the thief made his move.
  • A thief snatched a woman’s iPhone right out of her hands while she texted on Jan. 29. The victim told cops she was on Flatbush Avenue between DeKalb Avenue and Fulton Street at around 5:30 p.m. when the thief made his move.

Trouble at the Atlantic Terminal

  • A foolhardy thief stole an assortment of electronics from Target on Jan. 25, then actually returned the next day to steal more stuff and was promptly arrested by cops. Surveillance video captured the suspect swiping items worth a total of $1,740 total from the constantly busy store inside the Atlantic Terminal mall.
  • A thief swiped a woman’s credit card from her backpack while she was inside the Atlantic Terminal Mall on Jan. 30. The victim told cops she noticed that her backpack was unzipped at around 2:30 p.m.

Straphanger Swipe

A thief stole a woman’s laptop while she slept on the subway on Jan. 30.

The victim told cops that the train — police did not say which train — had pulled into the Nevins Street station at around 1 a.m. when she noticed her computer and her bag, containing a credit card, were missing.

Car Vanished

A thief stole a Nissan Maxima from Navy Street and Flushing Avenue on Jan. 27. The owner of the car told cops he had parked it at around 7 p.m. When he returned, it was gone.
