A Rowdy Cane Attack in This Week's Police Blotter

Here's our weekly roundup of crime from within the 88th Precinct.

Twist of Cane

A heated argument between two women at the Tillary Street Shelter culminated with one of them breaking her cane across the other’s chest on Feb. 18.

A witness told police that the argument began at the shelter between Prince and Navy streets at around 10:45 p.m. That’s when a 49-year-old woman snapped her cane over her 56-year-old opponent. Officer Jason Pena hauled the irate woman off to jail for assault.

Faux Stick-Up

Three teens tried to rob an 18-year-old by threatening him with a fake gun, but ended up in handcuffs on Feb. 15.

The victim told cops he was at the corner of Fort Greene Place and DeKalb Avenue at around 2:30 p.m. when one member of the trio flashed the toy piece and demanded his iPhone and cash. About 30 minutes later Officer Cheona Wright had slapped the cuffs on three underage suspects.

Spooked Thief

A thief roughed up a woman and tried to rob her in her Cumberland Street home on Feb. 18, but fled the scene empty-handed when his quarry screamed.

The 25-year-old victim told cops she was in her residence between Lafayette and Greene avenues at around 11:15 p.m. when her attacker grabbed her and demanded money.

Knife Attack

Two thugs sliced a man in the chin with a knife while he walked on S. Oxford Street on Feb. 19.

The 23-year-old victim told cops he was between Lafayette and Greene Avenues at around 12:15 a.m. when the pair approached and began punching him. One of the suspects sliced the victim, and then both fled. The victim walked himself to and said he did not get a look at his attackers.

Window Bash

A thief smashed the passenger-side window of a van parked on Carlton Avenue on Feb. 18 and stole an assortment of tools.

The owner of the van told cops he had parked at Willoughby Avenue at around 11:15 a.m. When he returned about seven hours later he noticed the window smashed and a bag of tools, dollies and a hand truck were missing.

Bad Roomie?

A thief stole a random assortment of stuff from a Greene Avenue apartment on Feb. 16, and the tenant suspects her roommate is the culprit.

The victim told cops she returned to her home between Adelphi Street and Clermont Avenue at around 6 p.m. when she noticed she was missing a Rachel Ray dress, her credit card, and some cash — all worth a total of $652 — from her bedroom.

Bad Houseguest?

A sticky-fingered visitor stole a Macbook Pro from a Grand Avenue apartment on Feb. 17.

The victim told cops she had six people over to her place at Park Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. She added that she didn’t know everyone, and that some were “friends of a friend.” About two hours later she realized the computer was gone, and gave cops the name of her most suspicious guest.

Cell Swipe

A thief snatched a woman’s cellphone right out of her hand while she waited for the C train on Feb. 17, but cops quickly collared the suspect.

The victim told cops she was waiting for a Manhattan-bound train at the Clinton-Washington station at around 2:30 p.m. when an accomplice yelled, “Yo, Vincent!” distracting her long enough for the thief to make his move and run to the street. But the pair of thieves didn’t get far, as Officer Kha Dang slapped the cuffs on both underage suspects.

Pratt Problem

A scholarly thief swiped a student’s wallet from her dorm room on Feb 19.

The 18-year-old victim told cops she had last seen her wallet in a drawer in her dorm on Willoughby Avenue between Grand Avenue and Steuben Street at around 6 p.m. the day before. About a day later she realized the wallet, containing an assortment of credit cards and $247 cash was missing

Ransacked

A woman discovered her car had been broken into on Feb. 16.

The victim told cops she had parked her car at Grand and Lexington avenues at around 10 p.m. two days before. When she returned she noticed that the interior of her car was in disarray, and that the luggage she had stored in her trunk was strewn about the street. The thief got a jean jacket, a coat, a dress, pink stilettos, and a blazer, all worth a total of $1,545.
