A Halloween-Style Fright For One Fort Greene Man: This Week's Police Blotter

A rundown of major crimes in the 88th Precinct, which covers Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

Copper Pipe, Tools Stolen From Construction Site

A man working at 130 Flushing Ave. returned to the worksite on Monday, Oct. 17 at 7 a.m. to discover the chain and locks attached to the exterior gate compromised and $2,500 worth of copper pipe, fittings and tools missing. There are no cameras at the location.

Boo! Underneath The Bed

A 59-year-old man taking a nap in his room Sunday afternoon at a transitional housing facility for formerly homeless people on Carlton Avenue awoke to the sound of tapping under his bed. After discovering a person hiding underneath, the man ran out of the room and called 911. The man reported $60 in cash and a black watch stolen.

Chase Bank Robbed... Yet Again

A male entered a branch of Chase Bank at 402 Myrtle Ave. on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. and . Man then left the location with the note and fled westbound on Myrtle. No cash was taken. A search for the suspect and/or any clues did not turn up anything.

Schoolyard Thieves Go Big Time

Police arrested three 13-year-old boys for forcibly removing $460 in cash from unknown person(s) at P.S. 56 Lewis H. Latimer on Gates Avenue in Fort Greene last Thursday during lunch hour.

It May Have Been a Gun

A thief approached a 28-year-old man walking westbound on Myrtle Avenue at Vanderbilt in the early morning hours of Oct. 8 and stuck an unknown object against his back, saying, "Give me your phone." The thief then grabbed the victim's $600 iPhone and fled eastbound on Myrtle. The incident was reported to the 88th Precinct last Thursday.

Night Of Drinking Goes Awry

While returning home Friday from a night of barhopping, a 42-year-old man started threatening his 28-year-old drinking buddy, punching him in the face. When they entered the building where both reside, the older man then lunged at the other and stole $120 in cash. Police arrested the older man shortly after the incident.

Leave, Or Get Shot

A 40-year-old man walked eastbound on Dekalb Avenue at Washington on Saturday at around 12:10 a.m. when he noted a group of young men and one female on the corner. One of the males then approached him and punched him in the face. When the victim asked the man why he punched him, the attacker told him to leave or he would get shot. The victim did not see a gun. After refusing to turn over his bag, the man walked to the 88th Precinct stationhouse on Dekalb and Classon Avenue. The victim refused medical treatment.

Stabbing Near Putnam Pedestrian Plaza

Police charged 32-year-old Sean Greene with kicking, punching and then stabbing a man in the left forearm during a verbal dispute on Sunday at 2:29 a.m. on Grand Avenue between Gates and Putnam avenues—less than a block away from a  in Clinton Hill.

Teenager Caught Breaking Into Residence

Police arrested a 19-year-old man after a witness observed him breaking into a residence on S. Oxford Street between Lafayette and Dekalb avenues on Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 11:15 a.m.

Man Scares Off Would-Be Burglars

After hearing a banging noise in front of his home on Saint James Place between Clifton Place and Greene Avenue on Thursday at 12:30 a.m., a 53-year-old man went outside and saw two males standing by his basement door. The males fled towards Greene Avenue. Later investigation revealed that the cast iron bars in front of the basement window were bent. A search inside and outside the property did not turn up any clues.

Reason No. 1 To Get Your Building's Super To Lock The Front Door

A 25-year-old male returned to his apartment on Adelphi Street last Thursday afternoon to discover his door damaged and nearly $6,000 worth of electronics missing. Interviews with neighbors in the building, with a front door that is reportedly never locked, turned up an account from a resident on the third floor that two males were seen exiting the building that day loading what looked like computers into a vehicle and speeding off.

Mechanical Room At Brooklyn Hospital Vandalized

On Thursday just before 6 a.m., an employee of  got a report of a possible break-in at the facility's mechanical equipment room. Upon investigation, the employee discovered more than $3,000 in damage caused by unknown person(s) knocking over a data rack and pulling out the wire. Another room was also vandalized, with items thrown on the floor. The person(s) responsible may have entered the hospital through the front gate. 

Electronics Stolen From Parked Car

A man returned to his car on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 6:30 p.m. at S. Elliot Place and Atlantic Avenue discovering his front driver's side window broken and a Dell laptop, keyboard, Ryobi drill and work tools missing. 

Electronics Stolen From Parked Car—Take Two

A woman returned the location where she parked her car at Flushing Avenue and Navy Street on Thursday morning to find the vehicle broken into and a GPS navigating system and a TV missing. Thief broke front passenger side window to gain access to the vehicle.

Target Shopped Robbed

While shopping at the Target discount store in Atlantic Terminal Mall on Thursday evening, a 26-year-old woman had $500 cash stolen.

"I Got You!"

A thief pulled a 34-year-old woman's purse off her shoulder, saying, "I got you!" while she walked eastbound on Dekalb Avenue at S. Elliott Place on Friday at 10:50 a.m. The perpetrator then fled into Fort Greene Park.

Bag Snatched At Spa

Two unknown thieves stole a bag belonging to a 26-year-old woman from a closet at Dead Sea Spa at Atlantic Terminal Mall on Friday at 1:10 p.m. Items including cash, earrings and an Israeli passport were in the bag.

Revenge Of the Angry Straphanger?

A monthly inspection of an electrical substation at Atlantic Ave station on Friday afternoon revealed that 250 feet of cable feeding into the New York City subway's third rail system had been removed. Since the location is unsecured, anyone could get access to the cables, which are worth $2,800.

Car Owner No More

The news couldn't have been worse for a car owner whose vehicle was reported stolen from Saint James Place on Oct. 12. Police later found that the car, a 2000 Acura, had been impounded by the city's Sanitation Department, which then had the vehicle towed for salvage by Jet Auto Wreckers.

Man In a Hurry Gets a Big Surprise

A 53-year-old man running late for an appointment at Brooklyn Hospital return to his spot on Ashland Street on Wednesday, Oct. 19 to find his 2003 Honda Odyssey missing. The man thinks he may have left the keys in the vehicle. Police found broken glass at the scene.
