Mary Pinkett

As you may know, the late Mary Pinkett was the first African American woman elected to serve on the New York City Council. She represented the 35th Council District for approximately 30 years until she was term limited in 2001. A former President of the Social Service Employees Union Local 371 - DC 37 and employee of the New York City Health & Hospitals Corporation, she was widely credited for being a strong labor advocate and for being the prime-sponsor of the "Whistle Blower" Law.
