TRANSIT WORKERS UNION ENDORSES LAURIE CUMBO FOR 35TH CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT

(BROOKLYN, NY) Today, the Transit Workers Union Local 100 (TWU), which represents more than 64,000 active and retired members in New York, announced their support for Laurie Cumbo Democratic Candidate for the 35th District City Council seat. This is the third major union endorsement for Cumbo this week alone following the United Federation of Teachers and 1199 Service Employees Union and follows an unbroken string of endorsements this month.

“Our transit workers are the backbone of our City,” Laurie Cumbo, 35th City Council District Candidate said. “Their efforts ensure we get to work, school and home everyday and I am so proud to have their support. Our transit system is in the process of rebuilding its infrastructure in the wake of superstorm Sandy and now is the perfect opportunity to initiate other major capital projects to modernize our mass transit system. In the City Council, I will work to give our transit system and its employees the support they need to do just that. I am excited to work with them on my campaign and in the City Council.”

“We are thrilled to announce our endorsement of Laurie Cumbo for City Council today,” Political Director Marvin Holland said. “Laurie has pledged to work with us to ensure our workers are treated fairly and that our transit systems continue to run smoothly. We are excited to work with her on new initiatives to free up resources for the outer boroughs to repair and rebuild after Superstorm Sandy so our trains and buses can continue to run safely and on time. This summer our members will be working hard to make sure she is elected and we look forward to working with her in the City Council.”

On Thursday, June 6th, Laurie will be joining TWU Local 100 on a campaign to “Bring Back Our Booths” at the Clinton-Washington Avenues Station in her district. For more information, please visit: http://www.transitforward.org/bring_back_our_booths
