(Brooklyn, NY) – 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, the largest union in North America, which represents more than 275,000 men and women in New York, today announced its support for Laurie Cumbo 35th District City Council candidate. 1199 Vice President Coraminita Mahr cited Cumbo’s experience growing up in a union home, plans to fight for workers rights and protect our hospitals. Today’s endorsement is the fourth union endorsement for Cumbo in the past month. “I am extremely proud to have the endorsement of 1199 SEIU,” Laurie Cumbo candidate for the 35th City Council District, said. “The services 1199 members provide are critical. These hardworking men and women serve in our hospitals, our homes and in our local clinics providing crucial lifesaving care. I am truly grateful to have their support and I look forward to working with their members, on my campaign for City Council.”

Cumbo is far outpacing her rivals in major endorsements including: the Working Families Party, Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn, SEIU 32BJ, Hotel and Motel Trades Council and the Steamfitters Local Union 638.
