A Historic Fort Greene Compound Can Be Yours— For Almost $9M

Comprised of two lots, 164 South Oxford St. and 171 South Portland Ave., the compound includes two buildings.

Want to own a piece of history? A “historic compound” is up for sale on South Oxford Street in Fort Greene, Brownstoner reported earlier this week. And it can be yours— for a cool $8,950,000.

The 38,000-square-foot compound is comprised of two lots: 164 South Oxford St and 171 South Portland Ave., between Hanson Place and Atlantic Avenue. "164 South Oxford St spans the full 200 width of the block to South Portland Ave and is graced with two buildings in excellent condition," real estate agency the Corcoran Group notes.

The main home includes 10 bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms, is currently configured as a double duplex and an intimate studio apartment. Behind the house, a lawn leads to a brick carriage house with two 1-bedroom apartments, a commercial studio, and a large garage which opens onto South Portland Ave. Next door is 171 South Portland Ave with another two car garage. The combined lots span a total of 64.5 along South Portland Ave and 43 on South Oxford St.

So, real estate savvy locals, what do you think? Is this property worth such a chunk of change? Do you hope it remains in its current state of grandeur or do you think developers will soon bulldoze the "mini mansion" for something else?
