Wednesday Provides Another Chance For Viewers to Catch Manhattanhenge 2013

Whip out the 5D you got for your college graduation and get the iPad ready, a light show is in store.

Though Manhattanhenge, the phenomenon that is all the rage on Instagram, was totally stymied Tuesday by clouds, hopeful viewers will have another chance on Wednesday to catch the light show.

Twice annually, the setting sun lines up perfectly with Manhattan's street grid, resulting in an ultimately boring spectacle. It's not like it reveals the location of the Ark of the Covenant or anything.

Tuesday's overcast skies put a real damper on the whole thing, but if you still want to try your luck at sun-worshipping through the clouds, Internet demi-god Neil Degrasse Tyson has some advice through the American Museum of Natural History's website.

"For best effect, position yourself as far east in Manhattan as possible. But ensure that when you look west across the avenues you can still see New Jersey. Clear cross streets include 14th, 23rd, 34th. 42nd, 57th, and several streets adjacent to them. The Empire State building and the Chrysler building render 34th street and 42nd streets especially striking vistas," Tyson wrote.

Sunset Wednesday night puts the event at around 8:15 p.m., and then it will occur again in July. But by then, we'll probably have traded the rain for sweltering, unbelievable heat anyway.
