5 Things: Book Signing with Earl 'The Pearl', Thoughts on Food, and what is a Doula?

What you need to know pre-coffee.

1. Book Signing Event with Earl Monroe and Quincy Troupe, authors of Earl the Pearl: My Story. 

Basketball Hall of Famer Earl “The Pearl” Monroe is a sports superstar whose flair and impact on the game transcends statistics. His game was the perfect combination of athletic ability and showmanship, and his personal life proved just as unpredictable as his style of play. Now, 40 years after helping lead the New York Knicks to their last NBA title, the player known as “Black Magic” tells his amazing story. Earl the Pearl: My Story was written with an able assist by Quincy Troupe (author of The Pursuit of Happyness), and takes Monroe from the playgrounds and hardships of his childhood in South Philadelphia to his status as a basketball legend. Restoration is delighted to join forces with Greenlight Bookstore is honored to present this event, which will be followed by a book signing. Admission is free but seating is limited; please arrive early. 

2. What is a Doula and Why Should You Hire One?

Seasoned birth and postpartum doulas Mollie Michel and Meema Spadola will be on hand to answer all of your questions about doula support and explain the ins and outs of birth and postpartum support as well as their specific techniques for working with moms through their journey into motherhood. If you are pregnant or just thinking about becoming pregnant, this is a great opportunity to learn more about the value of the doula in the delivery room and beyond. Drinks and light fare will be provided! Stay to mingle, ask more questions and meet other moms and moms to be!

    3. Charlie Rauh and Concetta Abbate + Mika Karni + Toby Singer @ The Way Station.

    Charlie Rauh and Concetta Abbate draw from a vast arsenal of influences ranging from experimental, country, pop, folk, jazz, and folk. Their concise and unpredictable songs combined with a rapid performance  schedule continue to build the duo's reputation as a mainstay on multiple scenes along the east coast.

    4. Benefit for the Brooklyn Food Coalition.

    Food writer Mark Bittman will be speaking in Long Island University's Schwartz Athletic Center (formerly the Paramount Theatre) at 6 pm to benefit the Brooklyn Food Coalition.
