is proud to announce a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Event that will appeal to the little ones in your life!

Jumpstart, a national early childhood education & literacy non-profit organization, the Prospect Lefferts Garden Neighborhood AssociationLIU Brooklyn, and City College of New York’s Division of Student Affairs are co-hosting a MLK Celebration event on Monday, Jan. 16 from 2:30 p.m to 4:30 p.m. at Grace Reformed Church, 1800 Bedford Ave., between Lincoln Road and Lefferts Avenue. It is free and open to the public.

The program will consist of a story hour, arts and crafts, book give-aways and dancing by the Imani and Grace Devotional Dancers. For the youngest children, to commemorate not only the civil rights movement but to acknowledge the winter weather around us, volunteers will also be reading The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats. This book, written in 1963, is the first children’s book to feature an African-American protagonist, Peter, who went on to be featured in other Keats’ books.
