Target First Saturday at the Brooklyn Museum
Join us for Target First Saturdays and enjoy engaging and eclectic free art and entertainment programs every month, from 5 to 11 p.m. Michelin-starred Saul restaurant and bar is open all evening. The Counter café serves sandwiches, salads, and sweets, as well as wine and local beer. Parking is a flat rate of $5 starting at 5 p.m.
This evening will focus events around the exhibition Witness: Art and Civil Rights in the Sixties and will feature the music of Toshi Reagon's BIGLovely and CharlieRED; a theater piece by Ping Chong + Company which was inspired by collected stories about the Civil Rights era; Curator Kellie Jones will discuss the exhibition Witness: Art and Civil Rights in the Sixties; Anthropologist Jennifer Scott discusses the use of oral history in understanding activism and social change; Author Kevin Powell will talk about "Civil Rights: Then & Now"; and explore civil rights through activities that include making protest buttons, meetups with local activist organizations, and Sit, an interactive performance with artist Aisha Cousins, Ifetayo Cultural Arts Academy, and musician Yolanda Zama.
