MEDGAR EVERS COLLEGE CELEBRATES THE 88TH BIRTHDAY OF ITS NAMESAKE
Special screening of new film, "The Medgar Project," recalling Civil Rights leader Medgar Evers
In honor of what would have been his 88th birthday, Medgar Evers College will screen a college-produced film, “The Medgar Project” based on recent interviews about Medgar Evers with his widow, Mrs. Myrle Evers, brother Charles, and the author of “Mississippi Martyr” Michael Vinson Williams on Tuesday, July 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Edison O. Jackson Auditorium, 1638 Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn. Following the film, the filmmakers will share highlights of their recent visit to Jackson, Mississippi to make the film. The event is free and open to the public. This is the first piece of The Medgar Project – a work in progress that seeks to help strengthen Medgar’s legacy in Jackson and within the community of the Brooklyn college named after the Civil Rights leader who was slain 50 years ago. Throughout the 2013-2014 academic year, the College will host many events that highlight Medgar and his work and the work of his colleagues in the Civil Rights Movement.
