Lectures on the Urban Landscape | Heidi Neilson

As part of their project "Street Signs Became Flags that Mark Mountaintops" ( part of BRIC's "Housewarming" exhibition) and its interest in field research and discovery, Katarina Jerinic and Chad Stayrook have curated a lecture series, inviting other artists to present on their work that explores the urban landscape through methods more commonly used to study the natural world.

Heidi Neilson
"Report from Long Island City"

Heidi Neilson reports on two Queens neighborhood-based projects exploring the interface of natural phenomena and the city. The Long Island City Sundial tells time from the urban terrain, using the prominent Citicorp building as the central shadow-casting spire. SP Weather Station, a collaboration with Natalie Campbell, is an interdisciplinary project that collects weather data with rooftop instruments, hosts a Guest Lecture Series, and organizes weather-related publications, events, and exhibitions.
