JACK is kicking-off its new monthly conversation series, JACKTalk, with an epic evening with composer Dave Malloy (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, Beowulf: A thousand years of baggage). The conversation will be led by longtime friend and collaborator, JACK Artistic Director Alec Duffy (co-creator with Malloy of the OBIE-winning Three Pianos) and will delve into Malloy’s early inspirations, his creative process and his current passions. The evening will include a rare opportunity to hear in its entirety Malloy’s self-produced 1999 album, Halloween – full of electronics, keyboard and haunting vocals – in a lay-down listening session on JACK’s currently-carpeted floor.
Dave Malloy is a composer/writer/performer/sound designer/musical director/pianist/theater slash artist. He is the winner of two OBIE Awards, a Richard Rodgers Award, Glickman Award, Jonathan Larson Grant. He has written the music for seven full-length musicals, most recently Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, an electropop opera based on Tolstoy’s War and Peace.
