Join us for Mixed Flava's!, a purée of traditional and contemporary dance works-in-progress by Baba Richard Gonzalez, guest choreographers Kelly White-Burrell and Mara Rivera, and Baba Richard's students. Baba Richard will perform a short solo and then students who participated in a month-long workshop will present Mixed Flava's! This evening is the culminating performance of our Meet the Artist: A Choreography and Performance Workshop with Baba Richard Gonzalez.
Mixed Flava’s explores the fusion of different cultural expressions using an array of Afro-Caribbean dances.
Award-winning choreographer and teacher Baba Richard Gonzalez has been immersed in the study of traditional Afro-Caribbean dance for over 30 years, and has taught in the United States and the Caribbean for over 20. His commitment to the rich traditions of the Caribbean fuels his passion for the documentation of Afro-Caribbean dances and their preservation through teaching and performing.
