To mark the first birthday of Cumbe Center for African and Diaspora Dance, co-directors Dominique Bravo and Jimena Martinez are throwing a party and you’re all invited.

This Saturday, Cumbe—an alternative space offering dance and percussion classes for all ages—will hold a First Year Anniversary and Full Moon Celebration from 7:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. at the center’s Fort Greene location. General admission is $15 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-18, and free for those 5 and under.

According to Ms. Martinez, “On our first anniversary, all of us at Cumbe are thrilled that we have made our dream come true: to create a center in Fort Greene that celebrates and shares the joy and exhilaration of dances and music from Africa and the diaspora!”

Saturday’s event features three dance workshops—Afro-Caribbean, Congolese and Afro-Cuban—and two sets of live music from Heritage O.P, an acoustic percussion and vocal ensemble that combines African rhythms with traditional and modern African-American music.

Can’t make the party? Check out Cumbe’s roster of over 40 dance and percussion classes for children and adults that include traditional styles from West Africa, Cuba, Haiti and Brazil as well as contemporary dance, Hip Hop, Salsa and Zumba.
