Woman Injured by Knife-Wielding Man Who Dies While Under Arrest

Medical examiners are still determining the exact cause of death.

Hospital officials are investigating the cause of death of a Fort Greene man who died while in police custody Friday after he was arrested Thursday morning for assaulting a woman with a knife.

According to reports, on Thursday, July 4, at around 3:56 a.m., police were called to Myrtle and Carlton avenues following reports of a dispute between a 48-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man who had reportedly assaulted the woman with a knife.

Both the woman and the suspect were taken to Woodhull Hospital, where they were treated for injuries. The woman was released, but the man was arrested. 

Then on Friday, July 5, at around 5:27 a.m., the suspect, while in police custody began having a seizure and suddenly died. Medical examiners are still determining the exact cause of death.
