The Week That Was in Ft. Greene and Clinton Hill

Here's our weekly — you guessed it — week in review.

This past week was a veritable whirlwind of news. Here’s our roundup of the big ones from busy week.

On Saturday we reported that F + S Tires, one of the oldest businesses on Fulton Street, had been shut down by the city. A building inspector told the three Haitian-born owners of the store that the certificate of occupancy for their building did not allow for a tire shop — after 26 years of business. Later in the week, Councilwoman Letitia James expressed her support for the storeowners.

The next day we reported on a heated hearing regarding the expansion of Community Roots Charter School within the P.S. 67 building. Parents from the two public schools that share the space say that the growth of the charter school will doom their kids to sub-par education. Another meeting is coming on the city’s proposal is on Monday, you can expect more fireworks.

Then we featured a glorious photo gallery of a silly dance party at the Emerson.

And on Friday we closed with what is, without a doubt, the most explosive article ever featured on Fort Greene Patch. After 10 years, the Juggle This! Festival at Pratt has been canceled by the institute’s administration. Students and pros from across the country were in shock over the announcement, which has shaken the juggling world to its core.
