The Week That Was in Ft. Greene and Clinton Hill

Here's our regular roundup of stories from Fort Greene Patch.

It was another five days of bombshell news out of Fort Greene and Clinton Hill. Here are some of our picks from the past week.

The week began with our follow-up regarding a man who was struck in the head by a G train after some excessive New Year’s Eve revelry. Medics on that fateful day thought Jonathan Walton was a goner, but now he is back on his feet, according to a family member. 

On Tuesday we ran a story about the residents of the new condos in Fort Greene and Downtown getting organized. The article, which noted that the residents will form a new powerhouse constituency, got a strong reaction from our readers.

We’re still full from a trip to Borough President Markowitz’s Dine In Brooklyn preview on Wednesday, which featured free snacks from delicious restaurants around the borough. The Beep announced the full list of restaurants that will be offering $25 three-course meals from March 21 to 31, and 18 eateries will be participating in Clinton Hill and Fort Greene. That night we attended a Community Board 2 meeting that likely signaled the demise of a proposed public space in a controversial 42-story tower near BAM. Local politicians had pressed for the space, but the failure of almost all of them to appear at the meeting spoke volumes.

And on Friday we covered developer Forest City Ratner’s relationship with state Sen. Carl Kruger, who is now in custody for accepting around $1 million in bribes. Ratner has not been accused of any wrongdoing, but a public relations executive’s appearance in court documents is certainly not, well, good public relations.
