The Week That Was in Ft. Greene and Clinton Hill

Here's our summary of what went down last week in the neighborhood.

And the news just keeps on breaking. Here’s our regular roundup of all the big stories we reported in the last week.

The week opened with a report on some big fixes coming to the intersection of Washington  and Atlantic avenues, which is generally considered a pedestrian nightmare. The traffic calming will come at a price, though: the left-turn on Atlantic Avenue for eastbound traffic will be eliminated

Tuesday brought our latest profile in honor of Black History Month. This time we spoke with Peter Tulloch, the founder of Fort Greene Fest. Wednesday rolled in with a big story on a possible bike lane coming to Lafayette Avenue. The city backed off implementing it this year, but it seems certain that this issue will be revisited down the road.

On Thursday we ran what was probably the best photo gallery ever. Seriously, it’s going to be hard to top this one. Marc Anthony Garcia was promoted to Colonel in his elegant Carlton Avenue home in a stylish ceremony that could bring out the patriot in even the most cynical American. The fantastic photos captured the big moment as a general pinned the stripes on Garcia’s shoulders.

And on Friday we ran the earth-shattering story that will echo throughout the city: do patrons at the local sports bar, Mullanes, want to watch the New York Knicks vs the Miami Heat on Sunday, or would they rather watch the Oscars? You got to stop by to take part in the big debate.
