The Week That Was in Ft. Greene and Clinton Hill

Our roundup of neighborhood stories.

It’s a somber week in review for Fort Greene Patch; this is the last one that your fearless local editor, Stephen Brown, will be writing. In fact, I’m sort of speaking from beyond the e-grave — my last day was actually Friday. Here goes.

Monday began with our weekly roundup of crime, and this one was particularly nasty. A brutal would-be pimp struck a woman twice and stole her purse on April 21 after she refused to work for him as a prostitute. And that was just the first on a laundry list of incidents within the confines of the 88th precinct.

The next day brought our regular barrage of real estate news. Instead of taking a look at new properties on the market, Greenelisted checked on homes that had been previously visited. Not surprisingly, some had flown off the market, others were struggling.

That same day we also covered yet another showdown over a sports bar catering to the crowds bound for the Barclays Center. Expect lots more stories like this in your local headlines.

On Wednesday our legendary drinking columnist, the Secret Sipper, gave his picks for summer bars. Generally, a rooftop or a backyard bbq is preferable in warm weather, but the Sipper says these bars just can’t be beat.

But there’s one place our drinking columnist — or anybody else — will be boozing in the coming months: Moe’s. The beloved watering hole sadly celebrated its final day serving beers on Wednesday night.

And on Friday we closed with yet another tragic violent incident at the Lafayette Gardens houses. A 22-year-old male was shot to death — the second such incident this month.
