The Week That Was in Ft. Greene and Clinton Hill

Here's our roundup of stories on the site in the last seven days.

It’s been a rough two weeks for Fort Greene Patch. A smashed collarbone tends to slightly dull the journalistic instincts. But the news kept on breaking and we were there as much as possible.

The week opened with another bombshell from our legendary Frugal Family columnist. Fort Greene’s most famous stay-at-home dad took on a hot topic: yoga for the family, and gave a rundown of his favorite spots. Number one? His living room, where he can practice his stretches in Zen-like isolation

The next day we reported on the latest development regarding Moe’s. A local bar owner has plans for a new watering hole, called Navada, at the Lafayette Avenue location. But Moe’s management said news of the bar’s death had been greatly exaggerated.

On Wednesday the Secret Sipper made a departure from the typical dingy dives that he prefers and visited a different kind of bar: Applebee’s. As it turns out, the chain restaurant known for delicious — and mysterious — riblets actually has a bumping bar scene, too.

Thursday brought a new feature to the site in which we examine art in unlikely places. Our reporter took a look at the surreal nature scenes mounted on the walls at the Gnarly Vines wine shop on Myrtle Avenue. The artist, Kate Hill Cantrill, said that the psychedelic combinations of moss and dried plants help transport her — and hopefully her customers — away from urban life.

And on Friday we closed with a preview of the Society for Clinton Hill’s yearly house tour. The tour has something for everyone, whether you’re into architecture, interior decorating, or you just like to snoop around in other people’s homes.
