The Week That Was in Ft. Greene and Clinton Hill

Our weekly roundup of local stories.

It was a rough week for Fort Greene Patch. On the way to do some volunteer work your fearless local editor was hit by a car while riding his bicycle and ended up with a broken collarbone. To make matters worse, it was totally my fault, so I can’t even play the indignant cyclist trapped in a driver’s world. But the neighborhood news goes on, and Fort Greene Patch was there.

The week began with a photo gallery of cute tykes on the hunt for Easter eggs in Fort Greene Park. The photos were cute, and that’s all there is to it.

On Tuesday we reported on the two petitions circulating in support of F+S Tires, the shop that was abruptly shut down by the city after 26 years of business.

Wednesday brought news regarding the latest discovery at the Atlantic Yards site: arsenic. The state agency supervising the project revealed that vials of the deadly poison were found in the earth. The vials likely date back to around the 1930s, when a pharmacy existed on the future site of the Barclays Center.

And on Thursday evening we broke the big story on Community Roots Charter School’s decision to not pursue an expansion within the P.S. 67 building. The change of plans came after a mounting furor over the school’s growth, which would have resulted in reduced space for the two other schools that share the building.
