The Week in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill

What happened last week on Fort Greene Patch.

This past week had plenty of big news.

The week opened with a spate of crime-related news.

A creep a woman only blocks away from BAM and the Atlantic-Pacific subway station, putting the neighborhood on edge. Police released a sketch of the suspect, but have yet to have make an arrest.

The next day the Brooklyn District Attorney announced the conviction of one of the gunment in the 2008 shooting at a hair salon on Fulton Street. Paige, who actually had a bit part in a movie in which he played a youngster going down the wrong path, faces the rest of his life behind bars.

The fallout from the shooting on Greene Avenue after a basketball game at continued, as the school revealed that it would at its games. Unlike at high-profile games between public schools, Bishop Loughlin allows anyone to sit in the bleachers, instead of just students. Now, that will likely change.

On Wednesday we reported that Smashburger, a popular burger chain based in Colorado . Apprpriately enough, the newcomer to the food scene will open inside of another new structure in the neighborhood: the gleaming residential tower at Rockwell Place and DeKalb Avenue called DKLB BKLN. But the burger joint places plenty of homegrown competition, including Junior's and 67 Burger.

The week wound to a close with Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries' State of the District address. Jeffries mostly recounted his in 2010, and the audience ate it up.

Then, at the end of the week the neighborhood got some welcome good news. The Pratt Station Post Office, which has been closed since last year, will . The Postal Service had set up an interim office in a truck parked on the street, forcing customers to wait in the awful weather to pick up or send packages. Soon — God willing — those days will be nothing but a memory.
