The Early Word: Queens Pols to Back Jeffries

Endorsement from a trio of elected officials.

1. Helping to bolster Assemblyman Hakeem Jeffries' support in a section of the that stretches into Queens, several borough lawmakers prepared Friday to announce their endorsement of the Fort Greene Democrat over Councilman Charles Barron in the June 26 Democratic primary. Rep. Joseph Crowley, D-Queens, state Sen. Joseph Addabbo and Assemblyman Phil Goldfelder, both D-Howard Beach, are expected to attend. On Thursday, Jeffries announced he had raised over $250,000 from April 1 to June 6—his strongest fundraising showing yet.

2. The festival continues with two live events in two separate locations in Downtown Brooklyn featuring The Modern-Day Griot Theatre Company and Nation Beat presented by BRICarts. Renaissance Plaza, between Jay and Adams streets; Albee Square, 1 Dekalb at Fulton Street. 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Free.

3. combines the arresting projections of Carrie Mae Weems with the sounds of a jazz trio led by pianist Geri Allen at a unique Celebrate Brooklyn event. Prospect Park Bandshell, Prospect Park West at 9th Street. 8 p.m. Free.

4. French singer  mixes jazz, soul and Brazilian music at the latest edition of BAMcafe. Lapercq Space, 30 Lafayette Ave. 9 p.m. Free.

5. Alternate side parking rules are in effect.
