The Bargain Hunter! Local Dad Looks For Affordable Family Fun
Our new columnist gives a rundown of cheap entertainment around the neighborhood.
Today is my last day in a paying job. I resigned from a position in financal services to take on a new position I believe will be much more rewarding: raising my 4-month-old, John Carlito. So starting Thursday I’ll be suiting up as a stay-at-home dad while Mom goes back to work. Basically, his Mom will be bringing home the bacon while I stay at home to cook it (bada bing).
Although I am very excited about this new arrangement I’m also a bit nervous, as we are cutting our income in half. So, I’m on the lookout for the best deals in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill. Listed below are my top five this week.
- Still Hip - Everyone I talk to raves about this They also offer music classes. Is it too early to release John Carlito’s inner diva (or is that divo)?
- Greenlight Bookstore - How many times can I read “War and Peace” to my son before he breaks down? When he has had enough we will head to our favorite for book readings for kids.
- Bam CafeLive - This one is for Mom & Dad on date night. in s lounge space equals inspiration and artistic appreciation. I’d love to see my son perform here one day.
- Pratt Sculpture Garden - A for junior to relax in his stroller after a hard day critiquing contemporary sculptures.
- Fort Greene Babies Yahoo Group Not a deal per se, but the place to find the best deals. This listserv gives you the inside track on everything from the best babysitter to free jumperoos. Can one ever have too many jumperoos?
