Patch Picks: St. Patty's Day in the Neighborhood

Get out your corny green hats, plenty of bars are celebrating the Irish holiday.

The stylish spot on DeKalb Avenue will be serving heaping helpings of Irish food for St. Patrick’s Day. “We’ve been preparing for it all week,” said Kevin O’Lunney, who took a break from prepping the food to fill us in on the cuisine. “We have 60 pounds of the leanest best corn beef you can buy.” He added that the bartender pours a killer 20-ounce pint, and that management is expecting a lot of people showing up early: the party starts at 10 a.m.

This relative newcomer to Clinton Hill is quickly establishing itself as one of the neighborhood watering holes on Fulton Street. On Thursday they're offering a killer deal starting at 5:30 p.m.: free corned beef and cabbage. To top it off the bar will be pouring its regular happy hour of $2 off of everything until 8 p.m.

The local sports bar will be serving up a bounty of Irish cuisine for St. Patty’s Day. Corned beef cabbage, beef and Guiness stew, and Irish coffees are just a few options on the all-Irish menu. “We have the best Guiness in the neighborhood,” said Todd Sample, the general manager of the bar. “We got all the Irish favorites.

The reborn Freddy's will be celebrating  in style with a free music showcase featuring The Captures, The Telephones and The Highland Shatners, beginning at 8 p.m. Early birds are in luck, as Freddy's will also be doling out $2 Miller High Life and Pabst Blue Ribbon, and $5 whiskey shots until 8 p.m. (afterward, $3 and $6, respectively).

This worn-and-weathered Irish spot has a lot going for it this coming Thursday, not least of which is "the freshest Guinness in the area." Those looking to celebrate on the cheap will be pleased with the Smith's all-night offerings, including $2.50 mugs of Budweiser and Bud Lite, $3.50 domestic pints and $5 well drinks, all accompanied by traditional Irish tunes from the jukebox. Early birds will also find themselves gifted with complimentary corned beef and cabbage.
