Parent Talk: Teacher Cutbacks

What are your friends and acquaintances saying about the looming layoffs?

Mayor Bloomberg has threatened to layoff 6,100 teachers citywide due to budget cutbacks. Now, Bloomberg has raised the possiblity of even more cutbacks as a result of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s budget, which the mayor called an “outrage.”

Schools in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill are certainly not excluded from the chopping block. P.S. 287 on Navy Street would lose three teachers if Bloomberg’s proposal goes through. Brooklyn Tech on DeKalb Avenue would lose 11 teachers.

Parents, what are teachers at your schools saying about the cutbacks? Do you know any young teachers who are worried that they will lose their jobs?
