New Recital Celebrates History of Brooklyn Navy Yard

BLDG 92 presents "Siren Songs of Wallabout Bay" Thursday at 7 p.m.

 

A new performance will explore the history of the Brooklyn Navy Yard while examining the lore associated with the area, inspired by other aspects of American history. 

In partnership with The Walt Whitman Project, the Brooklyn Navy Yard Center BLDG 92 presents "Siren Songs of Wallabout Bay," a recital and reception with contralto Nicole Mitchell.

The history of the Brooklyn Navy Yard and local lore inform this program, inspired by the poetry of Walt Whitman, composed by Gilda Lyons, the experiences of "Rosie the Riveter, " and the historic first radio transmission from the Brooklyn Navy Yard in 1907.
