MulchFest 2013 to Take Place Jan. 12-13

Participants are encouraged to bring bags to take advantage of the free mulch provided.

 

A local event will give Brooklynites the opportunity to trade in their holiday trees for wood chips that can be used for future green projects. 

MulchFest 2013 will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sat., Jan. 12 and Sun., Jan 13 at Fort Greene Park, at the intersection of Washington Park and Willoughby Avenue.

Sponsored by NYC Department of Parks & Recreation in partnership with the Society for Clinton Hill, the Fort Greene Association and the Fort Greene Park Conservancy, Mulchfest participants are encouraged to bring bags to take advantage of the free mulch provided. 

"The chips can then be placed in tree pits and gardens," a statement about the event noted.

All lights, ornaments and stands must be taken off holiday trees.

For those who cannot make it to the festivities, fear not: Leave your tree at the curb until Jan. 19 and it will be turned into mulch by the Department of Sanitation.
