Literary Event Looks to Answer Question: Why Be a Christian?

Fourth Mission Literary Series kicks off at Old First Reformed Church in Park Slope.

For those wrestling with intense questions of faith, morality and God, a house of worship probably seems like the logical place to start.

Hence the venue for the Fourth Mission Literary series, which kicks off Oct. 18 with a book launch for Rev. Daniel Meeter's new work, "Why Be a Christian (If No One Goes to Hell?)" at Old First Reformed Church in Park Slope.

In his book, Meeter—who is also pastor at the Carroll Street church—seeks to get believers and non-believers to see Christianity in a new light.

The reading series itself promises to explore ethical and religious subjects in Old First's historic confines, which is in real jeopardy of not making it much farther into the 21st century.

In September 2011, plaster from the church's sanctuary ceiling. Later inspection revealed that much of the 120-year structure was in danger of collapsing.
