Jets Tix Bait-and-Switch: This Week's Police Blotter

A rundown of crime in the 88th precinct, which covers Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

The following arrest information was supplied by the New York Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

No Joy in Foxboro

On Oct. 24, a woman answered a Craigslist ad selling Jets tickets. She met with the seller at P.C. Richards on Fourth and Atlantic avenues, and exchanged $1,500 for 20 stubs. When the woman tried to see Gang Green play the New England Patriots at MetLife Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. on Sunday, Nov. 13, she was told that the tickets were stolen and invalid. Even worse, the Jets lost to the Pats, 37-16.

Woman Robbed by Bicycle Riding Bandits

On Tuesday, Nov. 15 around 11 p.m., a woman was walking on Flushing Ave towards Carlton Avenue when two suspects approached her from behind on bicycles and snatched her iPhone 3G. The suspects fled and were not found after an immediate search of the area.

Woman Becomes Victim of Early Morning Robbery

A woman got out of a cab on Clinton Avenue between Willoughby and Dekalb avenues at 3:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17. She started walking home, but was suddenly punched in the mouth and pushed to the ground by a male suspect. The thief grabbed the woman’s purse, which contained her wallet, some cash, and two debit cards, worth $770 in total.

Robbery Suspect Arrested

A 26-year-old male was arrested on Thursday, Nov. 17 at approximately 4 p.m. directly after he struck and robbed a woman of her cell phone at Whitman Houses.

Officer Saves the Day in Cell Phone Snatching

On Thursday, Nov. 17 around 4 p.m., an officer patrolling the train station on Flatbush Avenue Ext. and Dekalb Avenue noticed a 14-year-old boy chasing after three teens. The victim said, “Those three stole my phone,” and the officer gave chase. After a short pursuit the officer apprehended one suspect, a 15-year-old boy.

Teen Put in Headlock

On Thursday, Nov. 17, a 14-year-old boy was walking on Rockwell Place and Dekalb Avenue at approximately 3:30 p.m. Two unknown suspects approached the boy, putting him in a headlock and covering his mouth.

Brutal Brick Attack Injures Victim

A man was walking on Fulton Street towards Putnam Avenue on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at approximately 7 p.m. A male suspect approached the man, asking, “Do you want me to hit you with this brick?” The suspect then proceeded to beat the man with the brick, causing cuts and heavy bleeding from the victim’s nose.

Laptop Grabbed From Vehicle

A man parked his truck on Cumberland Street and Greene Avenue around 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14. When he returned at noon, the man noticed that his passenger side door lock had been broken, and his $1,500 laptop was missing.

Dance Studio Burglarized

A dance studio at 558 Fulton St. between Hudson Avenue and Rockwell Place was robbed sometime between Monday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 8 a.m. The crooks made off with various tools and signs, totaling $2,911 in value.

New York City Housing Authority Community Center Burglarized

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, an employee of the New York City Housing Authority’s community center at 501 Carlton Ave. between Fulton Street and Atlantic Avenue realized that a lock was broken in the closet of one of the center’s offices. Upon further investigation, the employee realized that a PlayStation 3 and a Nintendo Wii, along with a video game and both console's controllers, were missing. The crime happened sometime between Nov. 10 and the date it was reported.

Laptop Goes Missing

On Wednesday, Nov. 16 at noon, a woman appeared at the 88th Precinct stationhouse and reported that a Dell laptop, worth $800, was missing from her company car.

Woman Robbed by Her Own Boyfriend

On Sunday, Nov. 13 at approximately 10:30 p.m., a woman left her apartment on Saint James Place between Gates and Greene avenues to go to the store. The victim let her boyfriend stay in the apartment while she was gone, but returned to find that he had grabbed $1,400 in cash from her desk and fled the scene.

Thief Steals Metal Gate

On Monday, Nov. 14 a woman arrived at a building she owned on Carlton Avenue between Greene and Lafayette avenues at approximately 2 p.m. Upon her arrival, the woman discovered that a $1,500 metal gate was missing from the front of the building.

Green Card Stolen From Vehicle

On Monday, Nov. 14 a woman parked her car on Hall Street between Willoughby and Dekalb avenues at 4 p.m. She returned to the vehicle at 5 p.m. to find that her Green Card, a debit card, and three credit cards had been stolen from the car.

Phone Snatched on Atlantic Avenue

On Monday, Nov. 14, a woman was standing on the corner of Fourth and Atlantic avenues using her cell phone at approximately 7 p.m. A man walked up to her, snatched her iPhone and fled in an unknown direction.

Wallet Stolen from NYCHA Building

On Tuesday, Nov. 15 around 3 p.m., a woman took out her ID to enter a New York City Housing Authority office building on Atlantic Avenue between Clermont and Vanderbilt avenues. While doing so, her son got away from her. The woman put her wallet down, leaving it unattended while she went to get him. When the woman returned, her wallet, containing her EBT card, Medicaid card, Social Security card and two credit cards, was gone.

Whopping Sum Robbed from Bank Account

When woman accessed her bank account at the Chase Bank at 170 S. Portland Ave. between Hanson Place and Atlantic Avenue on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at approximately 4:30 p.m., she realized that someone had deposited several fraudulent checks into her account and made withdrawals totaling a whopping $8,000.

Drinks With Friends Becomes Night of Crime

After meeting friends at Der Schwarze Kolner, located at 710 Fulton St. between S. Portland Avenue and S. Oxford Street, a man discovered his satchel missing at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17. The bag contained a MacBook Pro, Ray Ban sunglasses and a paycheck—items totaling $2,845 in value.

Target Employee Robbed

An employee of Target at Atlantic Terminal left her purse inside her office on Tuesday, Nov. 15 around 1 p.m. She returned at 5 p.m. to find her credit cards missing. Two purchases, both for $104 MetroCards, were made with one of the credit cards.

Teen Arrested in Attempted Robbery

On Friday, Nov. 18 around midnight, a man was standing on the Classon Avenue G train platform. A teenager approached the victim and tried to put his hand into the man’s satchel and remove the items inside. The victim noticed what was going on and confronted the would-be thief. The suspect, a 17-year-old male, ran, but was caught and arrested by an officer.

Woman Pickpocketed on No. 4 Train

On Saturday, Nov. 19, a woman was boarding a No. 4 train at approximately 11 a.m. at Atlantic Avenue station. As the woman boarded the train, she felt someone bump her and tug on her pocketbook. The victim checked her purse and found that her wallet was missing. The wallet contained the woman’s passport, a credit card, a debit card and her driver’s license.
