Jan. 7-8: Erik Mongrain at BAMcafé

Guitarist displays the art of "lap tapping" tonight at 9 p.m.

1. Guitarist Erik Mongrain, master of a technique called "lap tapping," which involves placing the guitar in one’s lap and playing it like a piano, According to BAM, Mongrain's music evokes "a luminous, icy landscape fit for a January night."

2. This weekend, bring your Christmas tree to several locations across the borough, including Fort Greene Park, and get that for our backyard greenspaces. The chipping starts at 10 a.m. near the Washington Park and Willoughby Avenue entrance to the park.

3. It's as authors and illustrators of picture books visit all day to read from their new books, with neighborhood performers occasionally stopping by as well. Great stories are guaranteed, with the occassional added bonus of arts and crafts.

4. Join at their this weekend. There will be free dance & drum classes for children and adults on Saturday and Sunday, followed by a live concert on Saturday night.

5. Meet up at starting at 5 p.m. Saturday. This month's theme is, "Out Loud and Proud," featuring LGBTQ artists from across the creative spectrum. FG Patch's pick: Experimental punk bank (and former collaborators with queer writer/filmmaker/visual artist David Wojnarowicz) 3 Teens Kill 4 will play a set at 9 p.m.
