Great Escape! Learn to Cook With Your Partner
Our parenting columnist gives the run-down on two places to learn to cook outside of the neighborhood.
My wife and I agreed on a contract when I resigned from my position in finance to become a stay at home dad. Apparently, I didn’t read the fine print carefully because I’ve now been informed that I’m to cook all of the family’s meals.
This seems very fair, except for the fact my cooking experience is limited to ramen noodles and microwaveable pizza. A pinch of water here, a dash of three minutes in the microwave there … and voila!
Unless my wife cooked, we’ve pretty much eaten almost every meal out over the seven years we’ve lived in the city. So, I’ve been on the hunt for cooking classes that teach me to cook as well as my mother-in-law while allowing me to spend some quality time with my wife.
I’ve found two classes that might make the cut. Chef Sebastion Chaoui of La Table Exquise in Bed-Stuy offers authentic French cooking lessons. This might be just the thing for my Francophile wife who loves nothing more — not even me — than excellent crepes. We might also go to a class at The Brooklyn Kitchen in Williamsburg. I have my eyes on the pig butchering class, because nothing says love like pork bellies.
Do you know of any other cooking schools or classes in the area where we can go to enhance our skills and have a good time in the process?
