Great Escape: Borough Hall

Head down to the center of Downtown Brooklyn to enjoy free outdoor concerts through the end of summer.

It’s not every day that one finds a place to see live music right in the center of Downtown Brooklyn—but Borough Hall manages to provide that, and it's all for free.

Throughout the summer, lunchtime concerts in front of Borough Hall have been going on once a week or more.

Now that summer is almost over, it’s down to the last two.

The first is the 2nd annual Blood Awareness Concert on Wednesday, Aug. 31 starting at around 11 a.m. It’s held by Music Brings Life, which is an organization that encourages young people in black and Hispanic communities to donate blood.

The other is a special concert on Sunday, Sept. 11, and will be a 9/11 Remembrance Concert.

No matter what your musical style, the concerts always have something for everyone, from opera singers to dancers to fitness gurus who will invite you up on stage to exercise with them.

On days that concerts aren’t held, there’s still a large area to sit and eat along with umbrellas to shield you from what remains of the hot summer sun.

The view from the sitting area is nothing to scoff at either. Behind you are the regal looking steps and columns of Borough Hall, and in front is a beautiful park filled with colorful flowers and a tall fountain.

It’s a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday work life.

Borough Hall is located at 209 Joralemon St. in Downtown Brooklyn.
