Grab and Go! Where to Take the Kids This Weekend

Spies, puppets, and antiques. No, it's not a collection of government employees, it's our weekly top picks for family fun in the neighborhood.

It's the last weekend before spring — and yes, if you've seen any of the previous Grab and Go's I am a little weather-obsessed. But if you have a young child I'm willing to bet you have also been checking the weather report a lot more than you ever thought was possible before you had kids.

In any case, not only is there hope for sunnier skies, we have a great group of indoor events to get you through until those days when you can leave the house without a 15-minute coat, boot, hat and glove ritual.

Teen Game Time at The Library

What? We all know kids play too many video games, but if they do it at the library we can call it educational, right? Even if not, it might at least offer an incentive for teaching the kids the location of the the library. So send them over to the Clinton Hill game hour after school on Friday where they can play Wii or board games with other neighborhood teens.

Brooklyn Flea

What? If you haven't visited the flea at 1 Hanson Place yet this winter, this is nearly your last chance (it moves outside starting April 2). While not specifically a family event, the gorgeous three-story indoor location makes a great spot for a mini family scavenger hunt, alphabet games of antique items or just giving the kid $10 and watching them try to make the most of it. Plus, you can get a pretty tasty local collection of eats.

Puppet Alice in Wonderland

What? Secrets, Agents, and Spies? Oh My!

What? Have an alter-ego you've been waiting to try out on the world? This weekend at The Brooklyn Children's Museum you can do that and learn some additional spy skills like decoding messages, and building periscopes and binoculars. Also, in celebration of Women’s History Month, children will learn the art of crafting a convincing disguise, just like the inspirational Sarah Emma Edmonds and Harriet Tubman, who concealed their identities to organize spy networks during the Civil War.
