Grab and Go! Where to Take the Kids This Weekend

It's looking good both weather- and event-wise this weekend, so save the cartoons and check out our picks for neighborhood family fun.

Spring may be only a week away, but this weekend's events give us a chance to start the party early. Plus disco dancing for a good cause, cheap haircuts and the highly anticipated Brooklyn Baby Expo; there's loads to starting on Friday.

Spring into Spring” Dance Party

What? Ever find yourself wishing you could go back in time and do middle school all over? Okay, maybe not, but a school dance every once in a while might be fun. This weekend hosts it's spring fundraiser disco dance party. Bring the kids, buy some food, and party like it's 1979.

A Child Grows in Brooklyn Baby Expo

What? The popular blog A Child Grows in Brooklyn brings its first ever baby expo to Myrtle Avenue — eat your heart out, Park Slope! Demos and seminars will cover everything parenting: sleep habits, CPR, installing car seats, school zoning, breast feeding and even making baby food. Lots of local merchants will have their wares on display — manicure and bra fitting, anyone? — many with special discounts. Kids activities include baby yoga, haircuts and a free romp in the B. Toys playroom. Gift bags for the first 250 registered families and lots of raffles from top kids retailers.

Where? The Toren Penthouses — 150 Myrtle Avenue at Flatbush Avenue

When? Sunday, March 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Cost? $35 per ticket or $60 for two tickets. Tickets at the door are $45 each. (All activities, seminar and demos included in admission price.) Parking free, but stroller space limited.

Irish Folklore and Legends

What? If you're like us, your knowledge of leprechauns doesn't extend much beyond the Lucky Charms guy. Fortunately, the Urban Park Rangers are once again one step ahead of us and are sponsoring an Irish tea date. Grab a mug, or eco-friendly disposable cup, and revel in some of Ireland’s best-known tales of leprechauns, faeries, sprites and giants. It's magically delicious!

Cultural Connections: Nowruz Cooking Demo

What? Join blogger Azita Mehran as the museum celebrates the Persian New Year—Nowruz. Mehran will demonstrate the preparation of a traditional Persian dish – and visitors can sample the results!

Haircuts for Kids with Patrizia

What? Pop-up hair cutting salon appears at Still Hip offering haircuts of all styles. They wet the child’s hair if necessary but not wash it, and blow dry it if necessary.
