Grab and Go! Where to Take the Kids This Week

Our picks for family fun in the neighborhood July 28 - August 3.

Somehow August is almost here already, but before you prematurely bemoan the beginning of the end of summer, check out our list of neighborhood family events for another week of fun in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill (and maybe a few doors down).

MIL'S TRILLS SUMMER BASH!

What? Local kid rock fave and ukulele aficionado Amelia Robinson of Mil's Trills brings her quirky, interactive tunes to Littlefield this Saturday for “A Celebration of Music & Stories for Kids, Babies & the whole family!” Helping make the bash bash-ier is a crew of musical guests playing unique instruments, including the Dadbeats and graduates of her Ukulele Workshops. Plus $5 afternoon Drink Specials. BYO shakers, blankets, ukulele, or other instruments!

Where? Littlefield, 622 DeGraw St. between 3rd and 4th avenues. Stroller parking available.
When? Sat., July 30 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

How Much? KIDS under 10 FREE! Adults $10 advance, $15 door.  Advance tickets available online.

What? If you're ready to cap off the perfect day - after hanging in the sprinklers at Pier 6, head back home down Atlantic Avenue and make a stop at The Moxie Spot for pizza, drinks, and Family Bingo Night. The uber-kid-friendly restaurant (read free food for little ones) adds to their usual offerings of foosball and the like with bingo and board games and small prizes for winners and food for all!

Where? Moxie Spot, 81 Atlantic Ave., between Henry and Hicks streets.

When? Sun., July 31 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

How Much? Bingo and meals for kids free with purchase of adult entree.

Ages? 5 and up.

What? When the summer gets hot, the hot get going to where once again, our Tuesday morning is bailed out by their weekly summer event catering to its youngest crowd, and their caregivers. Brunch menu and coffee are available, and the morning includes infant-friendly activities, a story circle, toys and games. Doors are open only to toddlers and their parents, so that the kids can safely enjoy the space.

Where? Habana Outpost, 757 Fulton St. at South Portland Avenue.

When? Tue., Aug. 2 10 a.m. to noon.

How Much? Free (food available for purchase).
Ages? Babies and Toddlers.

 

CityParks PuppetMobile Presents "Bessie's Big Shot"

What? You already know every dog has his day, but what about the cows? Find out as The PuppetMobile brings this tale of a cow dreaming of joining the circus to Underwood Park. Come root Bessie on through her trials and tribulations in this new variety show, and find out if her dream comes true.
Where? Underwood Park – Lafayette Avenue between Waverly and Washington avenues
When? Tue., Aug. 2, 10:30 a.m.
How Much? Free.
Ages? Recommended for ages 2-8, though all ages welcome.

 

What? Brooklyn musical duo, Rozz Rozz Nash-Coulon and Andrew Vladeck rock the lawn in one of Fort Greene's best summer offerings, Music in the Grove. Described as tight harmony singing with high-energy pop, rock, ska, funk, hip hop, punk and folk – there's something to make every taste happy. Singing and dancing along encouraged.

Where? The Grove in Fort Greene Park (near the monument).

When? Wed., Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

How Much? Free, with suggested $2 donation.

Ages? All ages.
