Our best bets for the penultimate August weekend in the 'hood.

O.K., the praying is up to you, but this weekend our picks feature eats and laughs in abundance, Brooklyn literati and a talent competition, all just steps away from your door.

What? Young writers read alongside Brooklyn all-stars Bryonn Bain, R. Erica Doyle, Bernice McFadden, Rick Moody, and Jon Sands at this year's installment of the Fort Greene Park Summer Literary Festival. Join the authors afterwards at Greenlight Bookstore for music, mingling, refreshments, and signings by the featured Festival authors. Walt Whitman's ghost is rumored to be making an appearance.

What? Fort Greene's got talent! Every Thursday local artist and musician Mike Harris lights up this Fort Greene institution with his open mic night for the borough's hipster Susan Boyles. Come unleash that rendition of Wing Beneath My Wings you've been perfecting - or just sip your chai latte and judge.

Food Truck Rally

What? Now here's a monster truck rally even a Brooklynite can love. The Prospect Park Alliance and NYC Food Truck Associations serve up a smorgasbord of culinary cruisers offering everything from souvlaki to lobster, tacos to cherry slushies. Plus live music from the Jack Lords Orchestra and a raffle with a chance to win an iPad. Gentlemen, start your Cuisinarts!

Move over Sunday morning - the folks in Clinton Hill have decided that it's time Sunday evening had a chance to be easy. Hosted by Mr. Blow One Down and featuring The People's DJ JeffHaze spinning the virtual discs, with food and drink specials all evening.

Pretty Good Friends 5 Year Anniversary Show

What? The hilarious absurdist comic Eugene Mirman celebrates the five-year anniversary of his weekly variety show with an all-star lineup hosted by Mirman and featuring Arrested Development's David Cross, A.D. Miles, and more.
