Get Out: What To Do This Weekend

Our five top local picks for dancing, biking, eating and screaming the night away.

What? The third annual DIY music festival, with over 50 bands performing. Highlights include Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt!, Never Break Down, Laura Stevenson, the Eskalators, So So Glos and D.J. Grand Wizard Theodore, the self-proclaimed inventor of scratching.

Where? Friday in Williamsburg; Saturday at 106 Emerson Place between Park and Myrtle Avenues, Sunday at 402½ Park Ave. between Franklin and Kent avenues.

Target First Saturday at The Brooklyn Museum

What? Trying to give your lady the best date night ever – without having to take her to Bridesmaids? Try a late night stroll through ancient Egyptian artifacts. Every month Target sponsors a day of free art and entertainment at Eastern Parkway's answer to the Louvre. This Saturday, the focus is on Afro-Latin roots and includes music, a film screening, a one-woman show, book club and dance party with DJ Spinna.

Where? Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Pkwy. near Washington Avenue.

When? Saturday, June 4 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

How Much? Free, though reservations suggested for some activities.

Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo

What? Okay, usually movie listings don't make it into our hot picks for the weekend, but when Hitchcock's seminal masterpiece of obsession and loss, Vertigo, makes its way onto a local screen, we're happy to make an exception. Besides, BAM Rose has awesome popcorn, perfect for spilling on your date when you scream unexpectedly – and completely accidentally.

Where? BAM Rose Cinemas, 30 Lafayette Ave., between Ashland Place and St. Felix Street.

When? Friday, June 3 at 3 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 9:15 p.m., Saturday, June 4 and Sunday, June 5 at 3:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 9:15 p.m.

How Much? $12.

Brooklyn Loves Japan

What? Dope Jams record, book and DVD shop inaugurates their new outdoor space with a backyard BBQ and concert to raise funds for earthquake victims in Japan. An evening of smoking Barbecue, good karma, and music by Francis Englehardt, Paul Nickerson and Japan's own DJ Tek.

Where? Dope Jams backyard, 200 Classon Ave. between Myrtle and Willoughby avenues.

When? Saturday, June 4 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. (raindate Sunday, June 5)

How Much? $10 donation – which includes plate of BBQ.

Brooklyn Navy Yard Bike Tour

What? A two hour biking tour of the historic Navy Yard, called Getting a Handle on Sustainability (get it?). Participants will learn about the Yard's history as well as current and future developments, including the nation's first multi-story "green" industrial building, first solar and wind-powered street lamps, NYC's first building-mounted wind turbines, adaptively reused historic structures, and new green buildings. Must supply own bicycle and helmet.

Where? Brooklyn Navy Yard Center – Building 92 at the corner of Seventh Avenue and South Street. 

When? Sunday, June 5 at 1:45 p.m.

How Much? $24 per person.
