A Cuban Bash at BAMCafe

Poetry in the Park

What? Every Saturday this month poets will be spitting lyrics near the Prison Ship Martyr’s Monument. Whether you’re a pro an amateur, a spectator or a participant, go check out the poetry in recognition of National Poetry Month.

Where? Saturday, April 23. The top of Fort Greene Park. 12 – 1 p.m.

How Much? Free

Mama Juggs at Paul Robeson

What? Check out this one-woman show examining the many stereotypes surrounding black women’s bodies. Actress Rie Shontel channels three different women struggling with breast cancer, poverty, late puberty and breast-feeding. As an added bonus, the show is at the legendary Paul Robeson Theater.

Where? Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23. Paul Robeson Theater. 54 Greene Avenue between Clermont and Adelphi Street at 8 p.m.

Compost at Fort Greene Park

What? This project has been taken over by the city-funded GrowNYC, and is in currently in pilot status. Right now there are only four compost drop-off sites in Brooklyn run by GrowNYC. So be sure to hand off any compost you have so that the service will keep running for years to come.

Where? Saturday, April 23 at Fort Greene Park. DeKalb Avenue and Washington Park. From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

How Much? Free

Free Booze! 

What? Word on the street is that Tito’s Vodka is delicious. It’s distilled using an old fashioned method that makes it a favorite among connoisseurs. Even more interesting: it’s not prepared in Russia, but rather in Austin, Texas. Swing by the Greene Grape and see if it is actually better than that bottle of Smirnoff you have stashed under your pillow.

Where? The Greene Grape. 765 Fulton Street between S. Portland Avenue and S. Oxford Street. 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.
