Get Out: Things To Do This Weekend

Our picks for the best way to spend your weekend in the neighborhood.

Takeout and Netflix are fine for a rainy weeknight, but with this lineup of events, there's no excuse to stay inside this weekend. If you time it right, you can make it to all five!

Gotham Girls Roller Derby

What? Long before Drew Barrymore donned her skates and filmed "Whip It," the Gotham Girls were thrilling fans and breaking tail bones all over New York. This weekend, they bring the pain to LIU's gymnasium for a bout between Manhattan Mayhem and the Brooklyn Bombshells. Come cheer on the home team, and then head over to the after party to hang with the skaters, jeerleaders and derby groupies.

Where? The Schwartz Center Gymnasium at . At the corner of Flatbush and Dekalb avenues. After party at The Rock Shop, 249 4th Avenue at President Street.

What? The restaurant that brought us the bike blender is spreading more green love, resources, and ideas about sustainable living. This year's Earth Day Expo will feature workshops and activities from Brooklyn's greenest organizations — including the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, NYC Beekeeping, Windowfarms — as well as planet-friendly goods from local vendors.

Where? Habana Outpost. 757 Fulton St. at S. Portland Avenue

When? Saturday, April 16 from 12 - 5 p.m.

How Much? FREE!

Henna Night Party

What? Come get inked and hang out with fellow henna lovers. Designs are just $10, and will get you 10% off of select store merchandise.

Where? Brooklyn Stone Boutique. 366 Myrtle Ave, between Clermont Avenue and Adelphi Street.

When? Friday, April 15 from 5 - 8 p.m.

How Much? $10 per henna design.

What? The members of Creole rock band Grand Baton put on a show with a unique sound that draws on their eclectic roots from the Caribbean, France and the US. With Creole lyrics, distorted hard-rock sound and the ka drum (a staple of Saint Lucian folk music) it promises to be a high-energy, singular show.

When? Saturday, Apr 16 at 9 p.m. (Bar opens at 6 p.m.) 

Where? . Upstairs at The Brooklyn Academy of Music, 30 Lafayette Ave. between Ashland Place and St. Felix Street.

How Much? Free!

Russian National Ballet Theatre's Swan Lake 

What? The Russian National Ballet brings their rendition of one of the most popular ballets of all time, "Swan Lake."  Set to Tchaikovsky's masterful score, this magical love story will be performed in a staging based on the choreography of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov from 1895, 115 years before the Natalie Portman movie.

Where? Brooklyn College's Walt Whitman Theater, 2900 Campus Road, off of Flatbush Avenue in Ditmas Park.

When? Sunday, April 17th, at 2:00 pm.
