Why Go: Prom season is coming up, and the owner of Just Because Hair Salon on Myrtle Avenue, Carol Thomas, has committed herself to making sure six girls from Dr. Susan Mckinney High School have the time of their lives at the big dance. To ensure that the young students have nights to remember, Thomas is holding a fundraiser to pay for all the pampering — fit for a prom queen — that the girls have in store. As Warren, the older man, deals with an illness, his lover starts wrestling with the challenges of the relationship. “Codes” is based on a tragic real-life incident in Brownsville in the 1990s. When a shootout results in the death of a toddler, the child’s mother refuses to snitch on the killer out of fear for her safety and respect for the codes of the street.
