From Cheap Thieves To Major Heists: This Week's Police Blotter

A rundown of crimes reported in the 88th Precinct, which covers Fort Greene and Clinton Hill.

The following arrest information was supplied by the New York Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Women Robbed at Knifepoint on the 4 Train

On Oct. 10 at around 2:30 a.m., two women were on a northbound 4 train near the Flatbush Avenue and Fulton Avenue stop when a man approached them with a black hunting knife. The suspect demanded all their belongings, and made off with an Apple laptop, a black iPhone, apartment keys, and some cash, totaling $1,220 worth in all.

Man Robbed at Gunpoint by Cheap Thief

On Oct. 10 at around 7 a.m. inside the Ingersoll houses area, a man was robbed at gunpoint of all his cash, which amounted to just eight dollars. The suspect fled, but was caught on some security footage from a camera in the area.

Robbery in Broad Daylight

A man was punched in the face and robbed of his $200 iPhone on Oct. 10 at around 3 p.m. on Gates Avenue and Washington Avenue. The suspect, an 18-year-old male, was arrested 20 minutes after the crime occurred.

Violent Thief Robs Girlfriend

On Oct. 11 inside the Whitman housing projects, a woman was arguing with her boyfriend between 1:30 and 4:30 a.m. During the argument, the suspect punched and choked the victim, then slapped her $250 Blackberry out of her hand. The suspect grabbed the cell pone and refused to return it. When the victim tried to flee, the suspect grabbed her and ripped off her shirt, causing the victim to run outside topless while calling for help. Anton Morris, a 26-year-old male, was arrested the next day.

A Friendly Robbery in Fort Greene Park

A man was walking through a playground in Fort Greene Park near Saint Edwards Street and Willoughby Street on Oct. 9 at around 4 a.m. when he was approached by two suspects. One displayed a black handgun while the other said “You good man, just give us your sh*t.” The friendly thieves made off with $200 worth, including an iPhone 4, a debit card, the victim’s social security card and his ID.

Boy Robbed at Gunpoint in Ingersoll Houses

On Oct. 12 at around 1:30 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was approached by two suspects inside the Ingersoll houses area. One of the men displayed a black handgun and demanded all of the victim’s property. The suspects got away with the victim’s cell phone, a gold bracelet, a gold ring, and a brown Gucci belt, total $690 worth in all.

Woman Grabbed and Thrown To Ground in Robbery

On Oct. 11 at 1:30 a.m., a woman was walking on Adelphi Street and Lafayette Avenue when she was approached by a man who asked if she had any money. The woman continued to walk, but was suddenly grabbed and thrown to the ground by the suspect. He snatched her wallet, which only contained three dollars in cash, her social security card and ID card, and a credit card.

BMW Stolen in Late Night Burglary

A man living on Saint James Place and Gates Avenue woke up on Oct. 11 at his usual time of 6:30 a.m. He walked downstairs, noticing that his front door was open. The victim soon discovered that a Coach handbag, a Blackberry phone, a pair of leather shoes, and his 2007 black BMW were missing. The total value of the stolen items was a whopping $31,185. The suspect, 21-year-old Kevin June, was arrested on Oct 12.

Thankful Thief Leaves Note of Appreciation

Sometime between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Oct. 11 a woman’s home on Carlton Avenue Between Dekalb Avenue and Myrtle Avenue was burglarized. The thief made off with $6,750 worth in items, including a Sony camera, a Sony laptop, diamond Gucci watches, a cable router, and a cell phone. The suspect also left a brief note, saying “You‘ve been caught slippin‘, thanks for the OJ, smh (shaking my head) have a nice day.”

Construction Vehicle Robbed on Willoughby Street

On Oct. 10 at 11:30 a.m., a man parked his vehicle filled with construction equipment on Willoughby Street between Flatbush Avenue Extension and Navy Street and left for about twenty minutes. When the man returned he found that a Dell laptop and various pieces of construction equipment were missing from the vehicle, totaling over $5,000 in items.

Thousands in Jewelry Stolen From Home

On Oct. 12, a woman left her home on Dekalb Avenue between South Oxford Street and Cumberland Street at around 3 p.m. When she returned at 8:30 p.m., the woman realized that her drawers had been opened and it looked like her home had been searched. The woman soon discovered over $23,000 in jewelry missing, including a diamond necklace, a diamond and emerald bracelet, a Bulgari watch, a gold ring, and a Tiffany’s bracelet.

Man Arrested After Threatening Children

On Oct. 12 at around 4:30 a.m., 47-year-old Luis Dalmau went to his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in the Whitman housing projects, threatening to kill everyone inside. The woman, fearing for the lives of both her and the children inside the apartment, barricaded the door until police arrived and arrested the suspect.

Possible Robbery in Train Station Leaves Woman Without Wallet

On Oct. 10 at around 6:30 p.m., a woman left a restaurant after paying for her meal and went into the Atlantic Terminal subway station. Upon entering the station, the woman realized that her bag, which was closed before she entered, was now open and her Coach wallet was missing. The wallet contained the woman’s driver’s license, a debit card, and a credit card.

iPhone Snatched from Bench

On Oct. 10 at around 7 p.m., a woman was sitting on a bench in Fort Greene Park near Saint Edwards Street and Myrtle Avenue. Someone snatched the woman’s iPhone, her credit card, debit card, driver’s license, and metro card off the bench an fled. A canvass of the area was conducted immediately after the reported was made but did not return any results.

Sleeping Man Robbed on 4 Train

A man got on a 4 train on Oct. 11 at 2 a.m., put his things between his legs, and fell asleep until the train arrived at the Atlantic Avenue station on Atlantic Avenue and Flatbush Avenue. Upon waking up, the man discovered his Blackberry missing, along with a cellphone battery, a memory card, and his debit card.

Clever Suspect Robs Local 7-Eleven

On Oct. 12, an employee working at the 7-Eleven Flatbush Avenue Extension between Dekalb Avenue and Fulton Street reported to the 88th precinct that on Aug. 8 she received a call at work from a woman claiming to be from 7-Eleven corporate headquarters. The woman claimed that there was a problem with the store’s Green Dot Pre-paid Cards, and requested that the employee make several transactions totaling $1,508 to a card and give her the pin number. The employee did as she was told, but when she called corporate headquarters the next day, the employee found out that headquarters had in fact, never made the call. A call to Green Dot reported that someone had transferred the money from the pre-paid card to a private bank account.

Panty Bandit Strikes at Victoria’s Secret

The Victoria’s Secret at 139 Flatbush Ave in Atlantic Terminal was robbed on Oct. 13 at around 10:20 a.m. Someone walked into the back of the store, grabbed about 300 pairs of underwear totaling $2,250 in value, and fled. Store security cameras should help police catch the suspect.

Handmade Bicycle Stolen

On Oct. 13 at 1 p.m., a man parked and locked his handmade black and chrome $1,500 bicycle on Flatbush Avenue Extension and Dekalb Avenue. The man got on the train and returned at 3 p.m. to find that his bicycle had been stolen.

Double Strike Shoplifter Arrested

On Oct. 13 at 4 p.m., a 47-year-old male was spotted shoplifting from the Old Navy at 625 Atlantic Ave on the corner of Atlantic Avenue and South Elliot Place. The man got away with $1,953 worth in items. The same shoplifter was seen just 45 minutes before robbing the Victoria’s Secret at 139 Flatbush Ave in Atlantic Terminal between. He grabbed $1,160 in items in that robbery, but was apprehended by 6:30 p.m. later that day.

Vehicle Robbed on Fulton Street

On Oct. 13, a man was closing down his store at 1013 Fulton Street between Downing Street and Grand Avenue at around 10 p.m. He placed some items in his vehicle and returned to finish closing up. When the victim got back to his vehicle, he found that his Dell laptop, eyeglasses, Coach briefcase, iPod, and house key were missing.

Good Samaritans Help Woman Retrieve iPad

A woman was in the Atlantic Terminal train station on Oct. 14 at around 5 p.m. when two teens snatched her iPad and fled the scene. The woman gave chase to the two thieves,. Two men saw the chase and caught one of the suspects, waiting for the other one to return with the victim’s property. Both suspects, a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old, were arrested a short time later.

Sick Father Victimized

A woman living on Saint James Place between Gates Avenue and Greene Avenue realized on Oct. 14 that some unauthorized charges had been made on the cell phone bill belonging to her ill father between July 7 and Oct. 13. The charges amounted to $1,249 in total.

Security Guard Robbed While Making Rounds

A security guard working at 39 Auburn Pl between the Brooklyn Queens Expressway and Myrtle Avenue was making her rounds on Oct. 14 at 7:30 p.m. She left her handbag on a door handle and returned to find it missing. Inside was her wallet, two debit cards, and some metro cards, totaling $300 in value.

Target Shoplifters Arrested

On Oct. 16 at 3 p.m., two women were seen shoplifting from the Target at 139 Flatbush Avenue in Atlantic Terminal. The women stole $1,853 in jewelry, clothing, beauty products, cleaning supplies, and home accessories. Both suspects, a 31-year-old and a 19-year-old, were arrested a short time later.

Grand Theft Auto on Washington Ave

A woman parked her car on Washington Avenue between Willoughby Avenue and Myrtle Avenue on Oct. 7. She returned on Oct. 11 and found her 2000 Dodge Caravan missing and broken glass where she’d parked. The vehicle’s plate number is 7140405.

Audi Stolen in Late Night Grand Theft Auto

On Oct. 12 at around 11 p.m., a man parked his 2002 Audi on Vanderbilt Avenue between Dekalb Avenue and Lafayette Avenue. He returned at 3 a.m. to find the car missing. The car’s plate number is EZY0387.

Honda Hotwire Attempt Unsuccessful

A woman parked her car in the Ingersoll houses area on Oct. 15 at 11 p.m. and returned to find that someone had tried to hotwire the 2007 Honda Accord. Upon returning to the vehicle, the woman saw that her sunroof was open, footprints were left on a seat, and wires were hanging inside the vehicle.
