Despite Inclement Weather, Halloween Show Will Go On

Events to take place even with forecast snow, sleet and rain.

The  sent word that even though snow is predicted for Saturday, the show wil go on.

Also, members of the Fort Greene Park Conservancy, organizers of the , were similarly determined. However, instead of holding the event Saturday, the festival will be held on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.

At BBG, this year  has a Victorian theme that includes flamingo croquet, a flying flea circus, a Victorian toy parlor, and a monocle, mustache, and beard booth. The renowned Mettawee River Theatre Company will also take stage at the Throwback Theatre to lead an old-time waltz with woodland creatures, according to a news release from the garden.

“The grand flair and quirky humor of the Victorian era makes it a natural inspiration for the event-which, while inspired by Halloween, is more about the zany and spectacular rather than the scary and creepy,” said the garden’s Anita Jacobs, who organized the event.

The event will also include its traditional boisterous music, hands-on workshops, larger-than-life puppets, pretend petting zoo, and a children’s-book barn full of authors, the release said.

Kids and adults can make their own egg-shaker maracas to play in the parade, learn about lace, meet carnivorous plants, and visit the pretend petting zoo—or just flaunt their costumes for all to see. The Children’s Book Barn will feature 14 renowned authors and illustrators—many based in Brooklyn—who will give readings and book signings.

There will be musical performances by the Richmond Indigenous Gourd Orchestra, the Xylopholks, the Itinerants, One World. The event is capped off with the Brazilian percussion group Maracatu NY and giant stilt dancers from Mortal Beasts & Deities lead the celebrated costume parade and drum circle.

The event takes place at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden from noon to 6 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors over 65. Admission for children under 12 and members is free.
