Dec. 28: Five Ways to Celebrate Kwanzaa

It's all about family, community and culture this week.

Today is the third day of Kwanzaa, which means that residents all over Brooklyn are still celebrating the African American cultural holiday all through this week. Several events are taking place around the city, but here is a list of some Kwanzaa celebrations and Kwanzaa-related events happening only steps away. 

1. , 361 Lewis Ave. in Bed-Stuy, will be screening The Black Candle at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28, hosting Kwanzaa Arts and Crafts on Thursday, Dec. 29 at 3:30 p.m. and Kuumba: Creating & Telling Our Stories, a poetry reading and creative writing workshop on Dec. 30 at 3 p.m.

2. The Kwanzaa Collective will be hosting its at Boys and Girls High School at 1700 Fulton St. today through Dec. 30.

3. The main branch of the Brooklyn Public Library will be holding their in the S. Stevan Dweck Auditorium on Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 3 p.m. Come enjoy performances by opera singer Jorell Williams, storyteller Rebecca King, and dancers from The Piragramec Company.

4. will be hosting Kwanzaa: Day of Delights featuring W.O.R.D UP! Reading Holiday Traditions and Treats this Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 3 p.m., open for all ages. RSVP for this program at 718-735-4400, ext. 321.

5. The Apollo Theater on Friday, Dec. 30 at 7:30 p.m. with the renowned and energetic New York-based dance company, Abdel R. Salaam's Forces of Nature Dance Theatre, marking the company's 30th anniversary.
